NHS Digital will be commencing maintenance to the CIS (the Care Identity Service that operates the NHS smartcard system) on Wednesday evening.
This is a re-attempt of maintenance they carried out on 30 November which did impact smartcard authentication.
During this maintenance window they have told us that smartcard management functions won't work (e.g. renewal of a smartcard), but normal smartcard authentication should work.
There is a risk that there will be an issue with smartcard auth during this time, but this is not anticipated by the NHS.
